Just north of the Temple, the "Kirtland Mills Burying Ground" is owned and maintained by the city of Kirtland and is the final resting place for a number of Latter Day Saints from the 1830s. Among those buried here are John Johnson, Oliver Granger, Thankful Pratt, Joseph Coe, Ira Bond, Samuel Whitney, William Cowdery and Jabez Carter. Also believed to be here are Mary Duty Smith and Jerusha Barden Smith. Later graves include Gomer Griffiths, J.H. Lake, and members of the Kelley family.
Go north on S.R. 306 about 1/4 mile. Take S.R. 615, or Chillicothe Road as it splits off to the right. The store is at the bottom of the hill. It is owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Call (440) 256-9805 for information.
Go south on S.R. 306 2 miles to Chapin Forest, a Lake County Metropark which will be on your right. Turn right again as soon as you enter the park and in front of you will be a quarry pond. Follow the gravel path north and you will find more evidence of stone removal. This was the Stannard Stone Quarry, one of several used as a source for temple stone.

Take S.R. 306 south 23 miles to S.R. 82. Take S.R. 82 left (east)
11 miles to Hiram. Watch for signs on 82 directing you to the
Farm. The Johnson Farm is owned and
operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Take S.R. 306 two miles north to I-90. Go west seven miles to
I-271. Take I-271 south to I-71 and on to I-70 at Columbus. Take
I-70 west to Independence.

One mile north on S.R. 306 to I-90 west to I-271 south to I-71
south. Pick up I-70 west in Columbus to I-74 west in
Indianapolis. Stay on I-74 into Illinois and pick up 136 west to
Hamilton, Illinois and the east bank of the Mississippi. Once in
Hamilton take 96 north to Nauvoo.

North on S.R. 306 two miles and east on I-90 to Buffalo, continue
on I-90 through western New York to approximately 22 miles beyond
Rochester turn-off. Turn north on S.R. 21 about 7 miles to Hill
Cumorah and an extra 3 miles to Palmyra, New York. I-90 in New
York is a toll road. The L.D.S. history sites in the Palmyra area
are owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints.

North on S.R. 306 on mile then west on I-90 to about 25 miles
west of Cleveland where it also becomes I-80, which is exit 144.
I-80 is a toll road in Illinois. In Illinois continue on I-80
west to I-294 and go north about 25 miles to S.R. 5. West on S.R.
5 about 25 miles to Wheaton and south on S.R. 59 about 4 miles to
S.R. 34. West on S.R. 34 about 15 miles to Plano. The church is
located at 304 South Center Street.

South on S.R. 306 about 30 miles. Look for signs directing to the
park. It will be to the right, or west, about 2-3 miles.

North on S.R. 306 about 1 1/2 miles across I-90 to first stop
light which is Johnny Cake Ridge Road or S.R. 84. Right about 1
1/2-2 miles to Great Lakes Mall.

North on S.R. 306 north 1/4 mile to S.R. 615 angling off to the
right about 100 yards to the first stop sign. The cross road is
the Kirtland-Chardon Road. Take it right to the second stop sign,
which is a distance of five miles-Sperry Road. Take Sperry to the
left one mile to the front of the Arboretum.
