The Kirtland Community of Christ congregation
met in the temple occasionally by 1874, and regularly by 1886, for
worship services, classes, conferences, and business meetings. In
addition to serving as a house of worship, the temple has continued
to be an important part of the Kirtland community as it hosted temperance
lectures, high school baccalaureates, and community Thanksgiving services.
Tours of the historic structure began with the founding members in
the 1830s and have continued throughout temple history. As visitors
increase through the years, Kirtland Temple continues to receive historic
and architectural recognition, including designation as a National
Historic Landmark. |
